Nadol Narrative: Certainly, one of my best and most long-lasting accomplishments is my marriage to Ruth in 1968. We celebrated our 51st wedding anniversary this year. Ruth has been my partner in all that I have done. During the heydays of my chairmanship of the Department of Otolaryngology, Ruth was a true partner, a Perle Mesta, or Prime Minister for departmental functions, ranging from winter skating parties for our residents to advising on festschrifts, and still having the time to serve as a worthy grande dame of our family. As for my professional life, I’ve always fancied myself as a clinician-scientist. This notion was fostered during medical school in the form of three summer electives at the Marine Biological Laboratory at Woods Hole, studying, among other things, the anatomy of lobster stretch receptors. Since I retired from clinical activities five years ago, I am concentrating on my research activities, particularly the anatomy and pathology of the ear. After graduation from Hopkins, my hobbies have tended to prove the aphorism “Jack of all trades (master of none)” but have included some healthy doses of gardening and fair- weather sailing. I look forward to reuniting with my classmates in May.
